Representatives of St Michael’s school in Palm Island; Lil Myrtl and Doris Watson, have visited the Cottage by the Sea location in Queenscliff Victoria to recce and plan for the upcoming educational and aspirational tour for 2008 with the Catherine Freeman Foundation and Cottage By The Sea Foundation.

In partnership with the Catherine Freeman Foundation, CBTS is offering two tours for students from Palm Island in 2008, with the inaugural tour to be held in June 2008 for young girls. On Friday 18th April, Catherine Freeman and the CFF representative, Carolyn Schuwalow travelled to Queenscliff to spend the day with the group and meetings were held to decide activities for the students during the upcoming tour.

It was agreed that most importance would be placed on having fun and gaining confidence with new experiences, Educational and aspirational days will be built into the program to show the students that there are opportunities for them to make positive choices with their lives.

The principle of St Michael’s, Lil Myrtl says “ These tours will be fantastic for our kids. They will really create confidence and make the kids feel special. This doesn’t happen on Palm Island. We are very excited to partner with CBTS and CFF to provide this opportunity to our students.”

For each tour 7 students, 1 adult and 1 young person from Palm Island will participate for a total of 7 days in Victoria. Criteria for selection will be attendance and application to studies at school.
