Qanta Auskick Camp news from Catherine

Since 1994 I’ve enjoyed a wonderful and fulfilling relationship with Qantas and one more memorable experiences for me took place on the 16th of July – the Qantas AFL Kickstart Camp.

It was a lot of fun as I got to talk to the press with Kevin sheedy, as well as enjoy the privilege of meeting potential future AFL champions in the shape of 50 indigenous 14-15 year old boys from all over Australia.

There was great media interest on this wonderful occasion, and I think the boys got a particularly big kick, excuse the pun, out of feeling like superstars, for a few moments.

It was good practice for a life as a champion AFL player which undoubtedly is a dream that the boys hold dear in their hearts.
The 5 – day camp gave the boys a chance to experience services of the Australian Institute of Sport, as well as, AFL high performance testing, skills training sessions, career guidance, and many other activities designed to give these young people a taste of AFL culture first hand.

It was a tremendous experience to spend time with the boys as we had a ‘question and answer’ session together where i got to share some of my sporting experiences and life lessons.

I’d like to congratulate Qantas and the AFL for creating this initiative to get the best out of Australian indigenous AFL talent.
