Pacific Dawn’s first birthday celebrations Friday 8 November 2008

Catherine Freeman joined CEO of Carnival Australia and Catherine Freeman Foundation Board member Ann Sherry in celebrating Australia’s first superliner Pacific Dawn’s first birthday. On the occasion, Carnival presented the Catherine Freeman Foundation with a cheque of $22,139.

Catherine said “I am thrilled that P&O Cruises has supported the Catherine Freeman Foundation and has raised over $65,000 for the Foundation this year.

I’m excited that they have put in place two new initiatives aimed at raising even more in 2009. The initiatives include :
-placing donation envelopes into every cabin for all cruises
-placing a collection box at the hotel desk on the two P&O ships , Pacific Dawn & Pacific Sun.”

The money is being used by the CFF to support programs such as: – scholarships for disadvantaged indigenous young women from Palm Island to help themcomplete High School (an initiative in partnership with the Australian Indigenous Education Foundation) – initiatives to help reducte school truancy and promote constructive after-school activities suchas arts, crafts and dance on Palm Island.

Catherine added:

“I’d like to thank P&O Cruises for its ongoing partnership with the Catherine Freeman Foundation. The generosity of P&O cruise passengers and staff over the past year has helped the Foundation develop strong programs which, with their support, will continue to generate opportunities for disadvantaged Australians.”
