Creating pathways to a brighter future.

Olympic gold medallist Catherine Freeman personally invited guests to attend the official launch event of the Catherine Freeman Foundation Thursday 12 June at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The guests, including 7 young girls from the remote Indigenous community of Palm Island, also had the opportunity to witness the unveiling of the Cathy Freeman display at the National Sports Museum.
Luminaries such as the Governor of Victoria Professor David De Kretser AC, Mayor of Melbourne John So and other heads of Government, business, sport, education and philanthropy were in attendance as Catherine shared the Catherine Freeman Foundation vision of creating greater opportunities in education, in particular for indigenous girls.
Supporting Catherine in delivering her message were the Catherine Freeman Foundation team including board members Ann Sherry AO, CEO Carnival Australia and MC for the night, Peter Winneke, Manager of Myer Family Philanthropic Services and Andrew Cannon, Cannon Group, Honorary Consul de Monaco.
Catherine is a successful example and a strong advocate of education as a way forward for indigenous Australia.
She said “Education and health are intrinsically linked and I believe education is the answer for Indigenous Australia in reducing welfare dependency, creating opportunities and choices, and for closing the gap in life expectancy”
CFF Board Member Peter Winneke added “We believe we can make a significant positive impact upon young lives on Palm Island and it was terrific to see the early financial support we are receiving from so many attendees.”
