Catherine Freeman Helps Fund Palm Island Indigenous Learning Centre.

As is custom, when Catherine Freeman christened Australia’s first superliner, Pacific Dawn, the captain of the ship presents the Godmother with a gift. After discussions with the community of Palm Island, Catherine has decided to use this financial gift to aid Palm Island to commence the first indigenous learning centre.
The CFF, assisted by Penguin, will begin to populate the centre in 2008, thus providing a location for the Islanders to meet up, read books of all types and study the history of Palm Island, its people and the history of the Aboriginal people.
Carnival Australia has offered to assist the CFF in populating the learning centre by the donation of books by staff and guests on board all liners in 2008. This idea has been welcomed by the Island, with the CEO Barry Moyle commenting ‘We have a location for the indigenous learning centre but no books at present. Working together with the CFF will help Palm Island produce an outcome on this initiative in record time.”
