Creating pathways to a brighter future.
24-25 October 2008- Catherine Freeman hosted a group of 6 Palm Island visitors from Bwgcolman Community School in Melbourne over the weekend to participate in the ‘Give it a Go’ day, a special event for children sponsored by the Lord Mayors Charitable Foundation and the City of Melbourne.
The Give it a Go program provides opportunities for primary school – aged children to participate in healthy lifestyle activities that promote confidence and wellbeing.
The following children from Palm Island participated in the day, as a reward for regular school attendance and outstanding behaviour.
Mirinda Bulsey – a 9 year old year 4 pupil. Mirinda is a great student who comes to school every day and does the right thing. She really enjoys sports and has lots of potential.
Joyce Tapp – a 9 year old year 4 pupil. Joyce is a very energetic and enthusiastic girl who gets involved in things and is always trying her best. Joyce is very good at all sports and alway has a go and encourages others to be their best too.
Allan Walsh – a 9 year old year 4 pupil. Allan is an outstanding sports person. His favourite sport is Rugby League. Allan’s uncle is Obe Geia who plays for the Cowboys and it wouldn’t be a surprise if one day Allan followed in his uncle’s footsteps.
Ralph Watson – an 8 year old year 3 pupil. Ralph is a great student who always tries his best. Ralph is already showing enormous athletic potential. Ralph’s teacher says that whatever he sets his mind to he can achieve.
Following the weekend, when asked if the children enjoyed the experience, Headmistress of Bwgcolman Community School in Palm Island, Leonie Betts said:
“All of our Melbourne tourists are still talking about their adventure! They LOVED it! Thank you sincerely for organising it all.”
