Catherine Freeman Briefs Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on CFF
Mar 26, 01:18 PM

Catherine Freeman and Ian Thorpe, both representing their respective foundations, Catherine Freeman Foundation and Ian Thorpe’s Fountain for Youth, were present at the National summit of indigenous health workers, Close the Gap.

The summit presented Catherine and her management/CFF representative, Carolyn Schuwalow along with Ian and his foundation representative Michelle Flaskas, the opportunity to spend some quality time alone with Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in his chambers, discussing “Close the Gap’ and briefing the Prime Minister on their respective foundations highlighting the intrinsic links between health and education as a way forward for Indigenous Australia.

Both Catherine and Ian, as iconic sporting hero’s who have used their profile to give back to the community, were proud to be part of the launch of the Close the Gap initiative beginning in April 2007 and signed the pledge on Thursday March 20th 2008 alongside PM Kevin Rudd, Leader of the opposition, Dr Brendan Nelsen and other national indigenous and medical leaders.

The Close the Gap pledge commits federal, state and territory governments to closing life expectancy gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians within a generation.

Close the Gap day will be held on 22 April 2008.
