Creating pathways to a brighter future.
When I awoke at 5.30 a.m. on August 31, I had planned to partly walk and jog 12k, in my role as event ambassador of the Active HBF City to Surf fun run in Western Australias’ capital of Perth.
The moment the 34,000 walkers and runners began gathering at the start line to participate in either the 4k, 12k, or half marathon distances, I immediately got swept up in the electric and energetic atmosphere so much so that i ended up running the longest distance I ever have.
I managed to complete a 12 kilometre distance in 67 minutes of which I jogged the entire way and I’m feeling particularly proud of myself especially as I had practically no preparation for this run.
It was very tough for me, especially with 3 – 4 kilometres to go, however thanks to my running companion, and the rest of my fellow fun runners, i managed to push through the physical and mental discomfort because I knew if I was struggling, then there’d be a very good chance that they’d also all be struggling too!
I discovered that so many Australians love to run so when I saw so many people participating in the City to Surf, I was absolutely inspired and now I’m super keen to take part in as many fun runs that I can.
My commitment to running is renewed and I’m excited about it even if it took me a full week to recover from my 12k and my big toe is still bruised and blackened.
Now that my new Pacific Dunlops have been well and truly broken in, thanks to the City to Surf, I can now manage daily 30 minutes jogs comfortably with newer running expectations for the future.
