Catherine Freeman Foundation

The Catherine Freeman Foundation works with community organisations, businesses, schools and other philanthropists to provide opportunities and environments which encourage disadvantaged individuals and communities to achieve positive change. The Foundation has a particular interest in using sport, the arts and community economic development as pathways to greater opportunities.

The Foundation will raise funds and make grants to flagship projects. It will also be extremely active in creating new organisations to take some of these projects forward. Catherine Freeman wants to tackle some of the most difficult problems facing Australian communities and aims for the Foundation to become a powerful agent for change.

Finding pathways away from harm and abuse

A project of The Catherine Freeman Foundation

Community Spirit is the first of these charitable organisations which the Foundation will establish. Community Spirit will work with communities which have or have had a high rate of harmful behaviours to develop programs that help address these issues and strengthen the community. The programs will work hand in hand with communities to prevent the causes and implement a range of strategies to create a more positive environment and greater opportunity.

The Inaugural active project is with the community of Palm Island where Catherine Freeman’s mother was born.
